Within the framework of the Superposition exhibition, Défaïence becomes part of a collective reflection on inhabited space, as well as the construction and recomposition of shapes. This modular construction game questions lines, their extension, and their interruption, engaging both body and mind in a process of arrangement and movement.
Through fifty-two cubes with multiple faces, the faience pattern becomes an experimental ground where repetition gives way to variation. Here, the drawing is not fixed but in constant reconfiguration, echoing a fluid architecture and an ever-recomposed script. This principle references Kenneth Goldsmith’s Writing Without Writing, where creation arises from the rearrangement of what already exists.
Presented at Castel Coucou—a place that once served as our home—Défaïence is woven into this collective narrative that questions the way we inhabit space and coexist with shapes. It is an invitation to play, to construct, and to deconstruct.
From 04/10/24 to 05/11/24
Opening – 04/09/24 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM
Superposition is an exhibition designed and executed by third-year students, Art specialization, from the École Supérieure d’Art de Lorraine.
At the inception of this project, Castel Coucou Gallery—a space dedicated to showcasing emerging talent—became our home for the duration of the exhibition. We built a narrative thread, a collective story that lays its foundations around the ways we inhabit space, with each person contributing a diversity of perspectives. It is a place that welcomes the feeling of home, rootedness, and the notion of elsewhere. We settled into every corner of the gallery, directing our focus towards the challenges of a collective exhibition. The concept of superposition becomes a site for cohabitation and a sharing of our artistic expressions.
